1-4. The Greene County Council on the Arts celebrated their 22nd Annual Beaux Arts Ball with an evening of art, dancing, and fine food at Hunter Mountain on March 27. The fund-raising event, which included a silent auction, gathered together more than 220 guests, and helped to raise more than $32,000 in support of arts in Greene County.
1. Author, illustrator, community activist, and arts supporter Hudson Talbott (left) was honored with the GCCA’s Distinguished Service Award. Presented annually at the ball, the award recognizes those with a commitment to the quality of cultural life in Greene County. 5. Ann Curry (left), news anchor and correspondent for The Today Show and Dateline, joins Ruth Gruber and Stephen Apkon, executive director of the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville. Curry interviewed Gruber after a screening of Ahead of Time, a film based on Gruber’s life as a foreign correspondent, photojournalist, author, and humanitarian for more than 70 years. The film debuted as part of the Center’s Westchester Jewish Film Festival
6. Acclaimed violinist Pinchas Zukerman and pianist Angela Cheng entertained a nearly sold-out audience at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College. Following the March 14 recital, about 50 classical music devotees attended a post-concert event with the musicians. 1. Lucky seven: At the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce’s third annual Casino Night, Mindi Haynes of Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni, and Weddell rakes in her winnings
2. Stoutridge Vineyard hosted a spring Frock Swap, which allowed patrons to pair wine tastings with shopping. Marist College students Jennifer Gonzalez (left) and Pauline Pacheco were among the many swappers who turned out for the day. 3. The kickoff event for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, a two-week dining promotion featuring 141 participating restaurants in seven counties, was held in February. 4. Nearly a year after its creation, Orange County Executive Ed Diana officially celebrates the opening of the Mary B. Diana Softball Field by throwing out the first pitch at a SUNY Orange Community College doubleheader in April. The on-campus field is named in honor of Diana’s aunt, a longtime professor and coach at the college
