Wedding and Party Favors: Making a Donation In Lieu of Wedding Favors

A bride feels selfish replacing her party favors with a donation made on behalf of her guests

The Wedding Guru says: It’s absolutely not a selfish idea and there’s nothing at all wrong about receiving a tax break. You are, after all, making a donation and that is a selfless act! A single larger donation makes more sense to me, but you should check with your accountant regarding your particular financial situation, so you can get the biggest bang for your buck.

Make sure that you guests know that a donation has been made in their honor. You can do so simply by having a note at each place setting. Some organizations, like the Dutchess County SPCA, have their own document prepared. Stop worrying. You’re doing a good thing and most, if not all, your guests will appreciate what you’ve done!
