Cheap Wedding Solutions: Printing Your Own Invitations

The Wedding Guru Judy Lewis fields this week's wedding questions. Today: A bride on a budget considers printing her own invitations

Dear Valley bride: I fully understand your wanting to save money where you can. There are several problems with running anything on an inkjet printer. If the invitation is folded where there are words, sometimes the ink will actually “break off,” if that makes sense. (So when you design the invitation, anticipate where the folds will be.)

The second problem you might run into is that the colors will fade in time. If you want your invitations to last for any amount of time, an inkjet printer is not the way to go! If you have access to a color laser printer, you’ll avoid these problems, though color laser copies tend to be quite expensive.

If the number of guests you’re inviting is relatively small, you may wish to consider writing the invitations by hand, as I did years ago as a wedding gift to a close friend. There are lots of choices for invitations, some of which are fairly inexpensive. The bottom line is that I advise you to do your homework and be careful with any aspect of your wedding that you do on your own. Sometimes, you can be penny wise and dollar foolish!
