Wedding Traditions: Wedding Cake Cutting and Garter Toss

When do you cut the cake and perform the garter toss at a wedding?

The Wedding Guru says: The cake cutting (and serving) should be done at the very end of the wedding, after dinner. Some bridal couples like to end their special day with a reprise of their first dance; if they wish, they may ask their guests to join in. Here’s the traditional order of events, including the garter toss.

  • Garter removal
  • Garter toss
  • Bouquet toss
  • Garter placing
  • Cake cutting

(I need to add that you and your guests having a good time supersede any set order of events!)
