Do I Need to Tell My Ex That I'm Getting Remarried?

You might also want to tell your kids and ex separately

As the number of divorces increases, so do the number of remarriages. And with second weddings come issues that need resolving.

A local bride asks...
“I’m getting married to my true soul mate. My first marriage ended in divorce and I got custody of our children. Do I need to notify my ex-husband that I’m getting married?”

The Wedding Guru says...
The answer is definitely yes — a simple phone call will do (but please no texts, emails, or voicemail, which is very déclassé). Telling your ex is particularly important when there are children involved, though it’s generally not a good idea to tell your kids and your ex-husband at the same time. Your children should get the news from you and your fiancé so you can answer any questions they may have without input from your ex (which may not be the most positive). Last, but not least, congratulations!
