Do you EZ 2 Do?

Remember back when we were in the third grade and had an obsession with EZ 2 Do? We loved designing our own bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings. We’d spend endless hours at sleepovers, tediously crafting our very own jewelry collections (usually of the gaudy “gemstone” or beaded variety) — and, of course, embellishing any piece of fabric we owned with our trusty BeDazzler (I think I even tried to BeDazzle a pair of satin leggings ... what’s worse, that I did this, or that I owned a pair of satin leggings?). Then there was lanyard (also known as Boondoggle or gimp) — yards and yards of the plastic lace, in a vast rainbow of insanely bright colors, which we used to create bracelets, key chains, and other vibrant accessories....

Road Trip: Woodstock

Last week I took a trip to Woodstock to interview a storeowner for our March issue. I’ve never been up there before and I, probably as do most first-time visitors, have always had this impression of Woodstock as a free spirit town, abounding with peace signs, hippies, burning incense, and tie-dyed …well, everything. Actually, I wasn’t that far off in my assumptions: I did see all of those things. And although I wasn’t there in 1969 for the famous Woodstock Festival that took place some 40 miles away (at a dairy farm in Bethel), it’s clear that Woodstock still retains a lot of what makes it so special — and continues to be a mecca for musicians, writers, artists, actors, etc. (The retro town has been home to...

But let’s face it: Unless you’re Katie Holmes, the likelihood of purchasing your entire wardrobe at Neiman Marcus is slim (though a few choice pieces here and there wouldn’t hurt).

And because we all love the way the fancy embroidery enhances the back pockets of our Sevens jeans (and boosts our confidence), and feel a tinge of pride when we catch someone eyeballing the Marc Jacobs logo on our bag, it’s probably...

Are You a Hat Person?

Do you wear hats? Though I’ve never claimed to be much of a “hat person,” I’ve certainly worn my fair share of the now must-have accessory of the season. My earliest memories are of my mother stuffing my long hair into an itchy, wool beanie — which matched my equally itchy purple scarf. After graduating from elementary school (and the ever-unfashionable snowsuit), I remember trying to duck out of the house without a hat, positive the puffy rain-resistant hood of my Starter jacket would do just fine (apparently my mother thought otherwise). Then in high school there was my Von Dutch/trucker hat phase — which I probably stuck with almost as long as Britney...
