Shop Local in the Hudson Valley This Small Business Saturday

Take a pass on Black Friday to support local businesses by shopping small in the Hudson Valley.

Black Friday shopping at big box stores sure sounds tempting if you’re looking to save this holiday season. But we've all heard about the crazy-long lines and 6 a.m. horror stories where every year someone nearly loses a limb.

So before you set your alarm extra early for Friday morning, we’re here to tell you that there’s a better solution — and it’s trample-free. Shop local this Small Business Saturday, and you’ll not only conquer your holiday gift list, but also give back to your community. These local vendors are just a few of the many local shops participating and, this year, the sales are big.

Before you shop 'til you drop, stop by Poughkeepsie's Mindful Yoga With Liz for free mindful yoga sessions. With sessions for mommy & me, toddlers, young children, and whole families, it's the perfect way to get zen before an eventful day in the Hudson Valley. Afterward, head to Mesier Homestead in Wappingers Falls for giftable goodies with a touch of history.

If you're looking to score on vinyl, swing by Darkside Records for surprise discounts and exclusive releases. In the afternoon, venture over to Boutique Wines, Spirits, & Ciders in Fishkill for a special local producer tasting. No matter what you do, don't let the day pass without popping by Rhinebeck to wander in and out of the picture-perfect shops in the village.

Stray from the masses at Woodbury Common and shop over 30 of your favorite local vendors at the seventh annual Small Business Saturday Shop Hop in Cornwall. Then stroll through the Sugar Loaf Art & Craft Village for giveaways, refreshments, and locally crafted gifts. If you're up to it, don't forget to swing by Kaliada Boutique in Warwick for a community celebration that loops in discounts, a sip & sweets bar, and special gifts throughout the day.

Shop for literally everyone on your list on Main Street in Cold Spring for deals and great finds to guarantee a happy holiday for even your pickiest recipient.

Rensselaer County is a mecca for the #shopsmall movement in the Hudson Valley. Troy goes all out with exciting to-dos throughout the day. Beginning on Small Business Saturday and running through December 21, the city offers free gift wrapping from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Troy Atrium as part of a collaboration with Honest Weight Food Co-op.

As for discounts, head to Hudson Chatham Winery Troy for a complimentary glass of mulled cider, Love of Fuzz and Mindful Intentions for 10 percent off, and Funcycled for a free NY ornament with a $50 purchase. Visit Downtown Troy's website for a comprehensive list of deals.

Mark the start of the holiday season with a memorable trip to Historic Huguenot Street, but, before you leave, be sure to check out the Museum Shop for local holiday shopping. For New Paltz specials, follow along with the Regional Chamber's Facebook page for up-to-the-minute deals.
