Staying local for the New Year doesn't have to mean sacrificing on fun. Here are a handful of great events to help you kick off 2018, however you wish.
If New Year’s is your one occasion to splurge on champagne, go all out at Shadows on the Hudson in Poughkeepsie. Each gourmet dish of the 4-course dinner prepared by executive chef Nick Brower will be paired with fine champagne, courtesy of Moët Hennessy.
What better way to exit 2017 than with a dinner of lobster tails and fillet mignon? Hilltop Manor’s 4-course dinner will prelude an open bar, champagne, and party favors at midnight. Come early for cocktail hour at 7:30 pm, and stay late for DJ entertainment and dancing.
Ring in the New Year at the Roundhouse, where a variety of prix fixe dinners make the evening more affordable. Opt for the 3-course dinner at $80 per person, or the 4-course for $95, and tack on an optional wine pairing for added festiveness.
For the Kids:
The third annual event will kick off at 7 p.m., featuring face painting, balloon animals, a magic show, and treats. An early 9 p.m. ball drop will have the little ones in bed before the New Year, while live music and a later ball drop will keep the big kids going past midnight.
Whether you plan on bringing your children, or are simply a big kid at heart, The Castle’s annual family affair includes a kid-friendly buffet, and access to activities like laser tag, rock climbing, roller-skating, and arcade games. The early 9 p.m. balloon drop and celebration will not only make for an early night, but also a festive one.
Count on Woodstock to throw a great party. Head to the recently renovated Colony to see ska band Los Thujones and area natives, The Big Takeover. And if you’re afraid of sleeping in on New Year’s Day, a champagne brunch will be served at midnight.
Start the New Year by reflecting on the old. Paramount Peekskill hosts “Shadows of the ‘60s,” a tribute to the many stars of Motown like Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and others. Groove to the greats, and transport yourself to a different time.
