Imagine this. You’re sitting on the patio with friends, basking in the warm glow of sunshine at the end of the day. An ice-cold beer or a chilled glass of white wine rests on the table in front of you, accompanied by gourmet snacks and small bites. A summer breeze blows through the air, gently rocking the picnic umbrella above you.
Does it get any better than this?
As far as summer moments go, it’s hard to beat the simple pleasure of a late-afternoon happy hour. Lucky for us, the Hudson Valley has some of the best pickings around. Hit one of these hotspots for sweet sips and an inviting ambiance.
One of the coolest bars in the Capital District, Pōst does happy hour a little differently with its late-night event on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 p.m. to midnight. Grab one of the neighborhood spot's signature natural wines, then pull up a seat on the hidden patio or, if you want a bite to eat, in front of the sidewalk cafe.
Go for the cocktails, stay for the food at Gardiner Liquid Mercantile. Once happy hour rolls around on weeknights from 4:30-6:30 p.m., the Ulster County farm bar pours NYS wine and $5 craft beer on tap. Craving a cocktail? The $10 spirit slushies are oh so Instagrammable and just as sippable.

Although the interior of Heritage deserves its own shout-out, the outdoor patio space is the place to be during spring and summer evenings. Head to the Wappingers eatery Monday to Thursday 4-7 p.m. or Friday to Sunday 3-6 p.m. for discounted food and drink specials. $5 well drinks, draft beers, and wines pair beautifully with $1 East Coast Oysters. If you need a bigger snack, order the $6 General Tso’s cauliflower. One taste and you’ll forget you’re eating a vegetable.
If you can sneak your way into Newburgh's Hudson Taco for its popular "off peak" happy hour, you'll find stellar food and drink specials to cure the midweek blues. Visit on Monday to Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for $5 margaritas, mojitos, and cans of Newburgh Brewing's collaborative Amaízing corn lager. Grab a few tacos to go with them (hello, spicy chorizo!), then sit back and watch the trains as they chug along the Hudson. It might not be exactly outdoors, but you'll forget about the massive glass windows as you take in the gorgeous views of the river beyond.
Our new Summer menu is here! Mill House's beer is top-of-the-line, so why would the Poughkeepsie eatery's happy hour be anything less? During the week from 4-6 p.m., locals can head to the bar for $5 wine by the glass or $6 mixed drinks. To go with the drinks, an order of crispy pierogies for $8 or mac-n-cheese balls for $6 is just the thing to get the taste buds tingling. Take it all to the outdoor patio to lounge and sip in the sunshine.
If you've never been to Seven Lakes Station before, make a trip for happy hour, which goes down from 4-7 p.m. during the week. In addtion to drink deals and bar bites, visitors can unwind with house music from local DJs throughout the night. If the sun is shining, take your beer to the patio for al fresco sips with friends.
