Meet Our January Hudson Valley Hero: Jay Lang

A Valley resident sharing his innovative approach to the job search

"I won't send you in, unless I know you're an excellent match,” says Jay Lang when preparing his clients for starting the strenuous task of searching for a job. With several years of experience in career counseling and coaching, this Ulster County resident is working to make the hiring process less of a headache for those on the hunt.

The owner of the recruiting firm Hudson Valley Career Development LLC in Middletown and author of Breakthrough! How to Get Hired in Today's Tough Job Market, Lang has trained over 1,500 professionals since 2006 — 85 percent of which have since established their place in the career world with better jobs and more compensation than the ever had before. “I love seeing results and I love helping people overcome challenges,” says Lang. “I am extremely fortunate to be able to take something I created and watch it turn people’s lives around, give them hope and get them back to work.”

Lang incorporates a hands-on approach that involves working with his clients individually to develop the tools and skills necessary to get them employed, a technique that has now benefited hundreds of job seekers. Ruth Vella, a West Nyack resident that sought out the help of Lang after finding herself unemployed following a successful career of 34 years with a company, is one such success story.

Vella attended his workshop when it was offered by New York State Unemployment Services. “Jay listened to all of us,” she remembers, “then proceeded to tell us everything we were doing wrong, and how to start doing everything right. He was so passionate about the methodology he created that I just couldn't sit there any longer being depressed and discouraged.”
