25 More Things Every Hudson Valleyite Must Do!
Back in 2007, we told you about 20 local activities — from dining at the CIA to taking a swim in the Hudson — that help separate true Valleyites from the out-of-town tourists and weekend wannabes. 13. Do something (other than ski) at Hunter Mountain
Sure, we already know that Hunter — with its 55 trails, top-notch snowmaking equipment, and great après-ski amenities — is one of the best places in the Northeast to hit the slopes. But you can also have fun there the other three seasons of the year. This past spring, the facility debuted its new Zipline and Canopy treetop tours (profiled in HV’s “Outdoor Adventures” article in last month’s issue; read it online at www.hvmag.com). Summer visitors can reach the mountain top via the Skyride, a 15-minute chairlift run that offers great views of the Catskills. And when the snow’s not flying, the site plays host to no less than seven festivals, from Mountain Jam (in June) to this month’s German Alps and International Celtic festivals (Aug. 14-15 and 21-22, respectively).
