25. Attend the Woodstock Film Festival
Marking its 11th year next month (Sept. 29-Oct. 3), this fest has quickly garnered a national reputation for showing high quality independent films created by industry neophytes and veterans alike (last year’s edition, for instance, included movies featuring actors Aidan Quinn and Zac Efron, and director Ang Lee). Close to 100 films — a number of which zero in on controversial subjects — are screened during the five-day event, which also offers panel discussions, special awards ceremonies — and legendary parties. With its close proximity to Manhattan, the festival attracts more than its share of cinematic bigwigs, who can often be spotted browsing the shops along Tinker Street.
