Hudson Valley Burgers 2011: Best Veggie Burgers in the Hudson Valley, NY

If you’re a meat-eater, you’re probably drooling by now. But fret not, vegetarians, we scoped out a few places for you, too. Here’s where to get a stellar burger — minus the meat.

Rosendale Café offers a brown rice and arame burger (arame is a type of kelp) on multigrain bread with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. The option to add vegan cheese or “fakin’ bacon” (smoked tempeh strips), is included in the price.

The black bean veggie burger at Blue Plate is served on whole-wheat pita bread with a spicy chili aïoli, lettuce, tomato, and onions. Cabbage slaw and fries are on the side; additional sides are offered.

Although it’s technically a wrap, Luna 61’s falafel sandwich is a Mediterranean chickpea burger with avocado, tomatoes, carrots, and a tahini dressing. Roasted potatoes share the plate.

Whistling Willie’s American Grill caters mostly to the carnivorous crowd, but their made-in-house vegetable burger is a hearty, mixed-vegetable patty that’s crisp on the outside with a soft middle.
