The granddaddy of Hudson Valley craft breweries sits in a 19th-century warehouse on the banks of the Hudson River. Since 1993, when Garry and Kelly Brown opened the first iteration of Brown’s, the brewery and pub have seen both the beer business and the formerly seedy neighborhood in which they roost grow ever more robust. Their two dozen or so rotating beer styles run the gamut from all manner of ales to pilsners to bitters to seasonal specials; the Oatmeal Stout and Whiskey Porter were World Beer Cup medal winners, and at this time of year their Hefeweizen is the closest you can get to Bavaria without a passport.

With a new production facility in the hills of Rensselaer County in the works, brewer Peter Martin will lead Brown’s into new markets in the coming months. But the famous smiling woman with the inviting brew depicted on a mural on the outside of the building will continue to lure beer lovers to Troy. 518-273-2337; www.brownsbrewing.com

Cheers to: Tomhannock Pilsner, a special beer brewed with water from the Tomhannock Reservoir; portions of the proceeds benefit the Rensselaer Land Trust
Munch on: Brown’s beer pretzels — two German-style soft pretzels served with the brewery’s own Pale Ale Honey Mustard Sauce
