Founded in 2003, this beloved midtown Kingston brewery — which operates out of an early 19th-century brick building — has been at the forefront of the local craft beer movement for the past decade. “In honor of our 10th anniversary, we’re releasing 10 single release beers throughout the year,” says owner/founder Tommy Keegan. (On tap this month is the Belgian White Ale.)

“Tommy Keegan has produced three of the most drinkable beers in the Hudson Valley” — Alan Daniels, owner, Half Time Beverage

Keegan has brewing in his blood — his great-grandfather brewed for Schlitz and his dad started a brewpub on Long Island, but Keegan (above) is committed to flavoring his brews with local ingredients. For example, Super Kitty, the pub’s most requested special brew, uses fresh honey harvested from a beehive on the brewery’s roof; Joe Mama’s Milk, a dark stout, has hints of coffee from Monkey Joe Coffee Roasting Company down the street. Always on tap are the golden Old Capital, whose name pays homage to Kingston, New York’s first capital; Mother’s Milk, a rich, dark stout with hints of chocolate, oatmeal, and milk (click here for a review); and the Keegan family favorite, Hurricane Kitty (which is the nickname given to Tommy’s lead-footed grandmother by her local police force), an India Pale Ale with a floral aroma.
