Ars Choralis Concert: Bach and His World

Jun 22, 2019
07:00 PM until 09:00 PM

Ars Choralis will turn back the clock to the musical world of Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries at the Maverick Concert Hall in Woodstock on Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 23 at 4:00 p.m.

The historic hall will be alive with resplendent sounds of brass, timpani, strings and winds supporting the 50-voice chorus and soloists led by Ars Choralis Artistic Director Barbara Pickhardt. The concert captures the rich diversity and brilliance of six Baroque composers whose works reflect the full gamut of the era, from Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1663) through Jean-Joseph de Mondonville (1711-1772). The other composers included on the program, in addition to the preeminent J. S. Bach, are Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Grezgorz Gorczycki and Maurizio Cazzati.

Under Pickhardt’s direction since 1976, Ars Choralis has become known for groundbreaking narrative concerts focusing on such riveting topics as the “Berlin Airlift,” the World War I Christmas Truce, the Women’s Orchestra of Birkenau, and the ever-evolving concerts promoting unity and peace titled “Messengers of Peace,” as well as classical choral concerts of masterworks from Bach to Bernstein.

Discount tickets for “Bach and His World” are $18 for adults when purchased in advance and $22 at the door. Tickets for children 18 and under are half price. Tickets are available online at, from members of the chorus, and at the following locations: The Golden Notebook and Catskill Art & Office Supply in Woodstock and Mother Earth's Storehouse in Kingston.
