Artist Reception and Mural Reveal Party featuring work by Andrea Hersh

Jul 10, 2019
04:30 PM until 05:30 PM

Arlene’s is thrilled to announce a joint unveiling of a mural commissioned by local artist Andrea Hersh and art show featuring her work. The mural was commissioned because the interior of the store needed to be revitalized said Donna Garramone, owner of Arlene’s Artist Materials. “Andrea was the first artist I thought of because I love her work .” Plus, she would create “something we’d love to see everyday.” Andrea was easy and a joy to work with and the mural adds much needed color and fun to the space. “We’re absolutely thrilled with how it turned out and love it” Garramone went on to say.

The exhibition will feature recent works by Andrea Hersh opening at the R Gallery at Arlene's running July 10th until the 27th 2019. Hersh’s paintings represent fragments of dreams, fantasies, and moments in time.  She distills the human form to what she thinks are its most essential shapes and place these biomorphic forms in precarious situations. The shapes can be balancing on the highest peaks, or squeezed ready to explode, or hanging from thin air; representing the delicate balance of every aspect of human nature.

Hersh is always interested in exploring the uglier, more unwieldy aspects of nature. The juxtaposition of feeling on the brink of something potentially disastrous with a strong sense of humor and the absurd. The Artist Reception on Wednesday, July 10th, from 4:30 to 5:30pm. The Artist Reception will also serve as an unveiling celebration for the commissioned mural painting by Andrea Hersh inside Arlene’s. It is free and open to the public. Food and beverages will be provided.

about Andrea Hersh:

Andrea Hersh, who earned her MFA at the University at Albany, SUNY and has taught at area universities, has earned an excellent reputation due to her zany, intricately detailed oil paintings that feature abstract creatures and forms. In using these anthropomorphic forms, combined with her affinity for lively color and sensitive rendering, Hersh creates a narrative that tells the viewer about “the precarious hold nature has on humans and humans have on nature.”
