Crystal Yang: "An Art Exhibition: Neo-Hudson River Painting"

Oct 19, 2019
05:00 PM until 07:00 PM

Sponsored by an Arts Mid-Hudson 2019 Individual Artist Commission grant, Crystal Yang’s art exhibition “Neo-Hudson River Painting” will be held at the Poughkeepsie Trolley Barn from October 18-24, 2019. The artist’s reception on October 19, Saturday, from 5-7 pm, is free to the public.

Before arriving in Poughkeepsie almost two years ago, Yang spent 14 years as an art professor at University of North Dakota. Her move took her from an extremely flat landscape to mountainous terrain. As earlier Hudson River School painters had encountered the vast American landscape in awe, Yang, who is originally from Taiwan, created her “Neo-Hudson River Painting” series to reflect her vision of living in the scenic Hudson Valley in an artistic style that blends the tranquility of a Taoist Arcadia with the vitality of American action painting as well. While perceiving the beauty of the Hudson River through her eyes and heart, by means of this exhibition, Yang intends to reach audiences of diverse racial, cultural, social, and and ages, arousing a sense of pride in the historical, natural heritage and awe-inspiring beauty of this region.
