Deerskin Leather Stitched Journal

Date/Time

Feb 11, 2018
10:00 AM until 02:30 PM

Description

Learn how to make a leather journal from scratch in this classy introduction to bookbinding. We'll discuss tools and materials traditionally used in bookbinding, demystify grain direction and kettle stitches, as well as the many applications for awls and bone folders. Using locally sourced deerskins, we'll hand cut the hides to size. You'll also learn how to break down a large sheet of mould-made 100% cotton Somerset Book Wove paper in to sections for your journal, creating deckle edges by hand with a paper knife. Each journal will be finished with a bone clasp. We'll kick off the workshop by practicing some basic book structures, so you'll have a couple pocket sized notebooks to take home, too.
