On behalf of The Underground at Vassar College, we are honored to host Dr. Deborah Ottenheimer on February 12th, 2019.
Dr. Ottenheimer, who is a gifted speaker, physician, and mentor. Dr. Ottenheimer is an OB/GYN from The University of Pennsylvania and completed her residency training at St.Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. Dr.Ottenheimer spent 7 years working with adolescent girls in the South Bronx and continues to focus on adolescent and young adult health care. In addition to her private practice, Dr.Ottenheimer works as a medical volunteer in Haiti. She is also an active member of Physicians for Human Rights and faculty at Human Rights Clinic at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and at the Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights, aiding victims of female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and sex trafficking in their applications for asylum to the U.S. Dr. Ottenheimer lectures frequently to medical and legal professionals about human rights violations against women. In this lecture, Dr. Ottenheimer will be speaking on the health effects on human trafficking and child marriage victims from an OB/GYN lens.
She is very active in the field and her coming to campus would allow our community to get a fresh perspective and some insight into this very prevalent problem.
This event will take place in Rockefeller Hall, Room 300 from 6:15-7:15 PM with a reception following the speaker.
