Catch a concert AND a movie!
The FIRE AND ICE concert takes place at 3:30 PM Sunday April 23, 2017 as part of the Tower Music Series at The Reformed Dutch Church, 70 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.
This concert features world premieres of three new works by Norwegian and American composers: Bjorn Bolstad Skjelbred, Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen and Conrad Kehn, and a new solo by Magnar Am. Mr. Skjelbred will be flying in from Oslo to host all 7 concerts in the tour. Colorado-based composer Conrad Kehn’s newly-created silent film will be accompanied by live music. Performers include Michael Gilbert Ronstadt (Cello), Eric Despard (Guitar) and Rocco Anthony Jerry (Accordion).
Norwegian Composer Bjorn Bolstad Skjelbred is internationally known for his chamber and orchestral music and has received commissions from Oslo Philharmonic and Nordic Voices, among many other ensembles. He has also served as the Vice-President of the Norwegian Society of Composers. Among Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen’s hundreds of compositions, his concert band publications are especially popular. He is also director of The Brasswind Contemporary Music Festival in Bergen. Conrad Kehn’s new work is “Soundtracks to Movies That Don’t Exist”. Mr. Kehn’s works bridge the gap between film, chamber music and popular music. He is also the director of The Playground Ensemble, Colorado’s leading New Music ensemble. Norwegian Composer Magnar Am receives the State Guaranteed Income for Artists. This honor guarantees his income every year until he retires, and it gives him great compositional freedom.
Cincinnati-based cellist Michael Gilbert Ronstadt does over 300 performances a year and specializes in jazz. He comes from a long line of musicians including his father Michael J., brother Petie and aunt Linda Ronstadt. He is also a core member of the group, Ronstadt Generations. Vermont-based guitarist Eric Despard works in chamber music, rock and jazz groups. He is Affiliate Artist at Middlebury College and Assistant Professor at Southern Vermont College. New York-based accordionist Rocco Anthony Jerry specializes in contemporary classical, and has premiered many new works for his instrument.
The Fire and Ice Concert Tour spans three states: New York, Vermont and Massachusetts. All concerts are free and open to the general public. For more information, watch the Youtube promotional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XMv7oE_FpA and visit us on Facebook.
