A great event for a great cause: The brand-new Hudson Valley Dance Festival takes place this month at Historic Catskill Point. Organized by Dancers Responding to AIDS, an offshoot of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, this one-night festival features performances by a host of world-class modern dance troupes, including Evidence, A Dance Company; Monica Bill Barnes & Company; and the Stephen Petronio Company. Classical dance is also on the bill, with American Ballet Theatre’s Marcelo Gomes choreographing a work which will be performed by ABT dancers Jessica Saund and Thomas Forster. Proceeds from the evening support service agencies nationwide, including the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York, which helps more than 750 local residents living with HIV/AIDS.
