Hudson, NY - 510 Warren Street Gallery is happy to present the recent work of Kate Knapp in a show titled “April in Paris, Venice and Sicily.” The exhibit is a collection of watercolor and gouache paintings done on location in Europe and in her studio in Housatonic, MA. The show will run from April 5th to April 28th with an opening reception on Saturday, April 6th from 3 to 6 pm. The artist will be present to meet attendees and discuss her work.
From the seat of a gondola in the canals of Venice to the quays of the Seine in Paris, Knapp has created a world of wonder for us to enjoy. In Sicily we enter the beautiful gardens of Taormina to view Mt. Etna in the distance. Spring is everywhere. The world is awakening after a long winter. Skies are clearing and the water is moving all around us. Each painting offers different light and atmospheric effects from early morning to night. The Ionian Sea glows in the sunlight as seen from the balcony of the Villa Carlotto where Knapp stayed while in Sicily, changing rooms often to paint different views. Fishing boats in the port of Ortigia and a barge sailing up the Seine in Paris are two of the brilliantly painted scenes that Knapp focused on among many others.
This exhibit is filled with a lively spirit and a strong sense of place. Whether painting local architecture or the natural landscape, there is whimsy in every brushstroke. Color is light and each of her complex compositions carries us away to a lovely springtime place. These works welcome you to come and enjoy the view.
The gallery will also be showing the work of its artist members, Charles Benton, Leslee Carsewell, Ian Clyde, Linda Hertz, Trevor Hunter, John Lipkowitz, Nina Lipkowitz, Hannah Mandel, Paul Nueckel, Anna Oliver, Marilyn Orner, Janet Pumphrey, Peggy Reeves, Ken Sahr, Doris Simon and H. David Stein.
