Local History Talk on Suffrage Celebrates Women’s History Month

Date/Time

Mar 23, 2017
06:00 PM until 07:30 PM

Description

The Hudson Area Library History Room, as part of its Local History Speaker Series, is pleased to present Suffragettes: 100 Years, 10 Stories, from Hudson; We’re Counting by Nicole Childrose on Thursday, March 23 at 6:00 pm.

This event will be an interactive lecture and discussion celebrating northeastern women and their contributions throughout history. An exploration of 10 case studies of local women with ties to Hudson and the greater Hudson Valley region will allow audience members to have a greater understanding of local women who have made political, economic and social contributions.

Emphasis will be placed on historiography, social and cultural history and innovative approaches to understanding our community roots. Strategies will also be shared to empower audience members to understand and appreciate history through diverse and unique lenses.  There will be refreshments and a question and answer session will follow.

Nicole is an assistant professor of history and political science at Columbia-Greene Community College. Her emphasis is on innovative approaches to teaching social and cultural history, philosophy and psychology. Nicole’s doctoral dissertation explored innovative approaches to teaching history online. She emphasizes social justice in all her teaching; empowering students to understand their own stories and make positive changes in their lives, communities and the world.  She is a passionate animal advocate and lives in East Nassau with her husband Robert.

This event will take place in the community room, which is wheelchair accessible.
