Come and celebrate International Sculpture Day, April 27th, at Rockland Center for the Arts. RoCA selected members of the Sculpture Guild of NY to create site specific installations for The Catherine Konner Sculpture Park. Large on-site installations address environmental themes with interactive works, integrating elements of both sound and touch. Natural Progressions invites visitors to reconnect to nature and to relieve the ‘nature deficit’ so prevalent today and will be part of the yearlong exhibitions on Art and Healing.
The eight amazing artists of the NY Sculpture Guild are all known for their public art works and installations on environmental themes. Artists include: Mark Attebery, Caroline Bergonzi, Alberto Bursztyn, Sarah Haviland, Elizabeth McCue, Thea Lanzisero, Eric David Laxman, and Janet Rutkowski.
Also opening is a on-site installation of the RoCA Nest by Cristina Biaggi inspired by avian architeture. She presents concepts of interconnection and similarity between the architectural feats of birds and that of some types of human housing found in tropical rain forests.
The public is invited to participate in creating Sculptural Walking Sticks, 2:30 -4:30, as part of the International Sculpture Day festival. The workshop is a free event to get the public involved in the creation and appreciation of sculpture.
“Natural Progressions & RoCA Nest” will be on view April 27, 2019 – April 30, 2020. An opening reception will be held Saturday, April 27, 2– 5 pm. Rockland Center for the Arts is located at 27 S.
