Kick Off: July 28 from 6pm - 8pm. Closing Reception: September 1 from 6pm - 8pm
“Revisionary Repair Services” is a multi-disciplinary mixed media site specific performance installation that interacts and connects with the community of Hudson and beyond. For the duration the exhibition artist Michael Tong will be on site at the Gallery at 46 Green Street to perform repair work on specific broken items brought forth by the community at large. After the items are examined for their feasibility the chosen ones will be repaired as well as re-purposed.
“Revisionary Repair Services” will have a Workshop with work stations and various tools for different kinds of repair work where visitors can observe the artist's process of performing the actual repair work during shop hours. There will be an Office within which the artist will consult with individuals about the item they bring in for repair and a Gallery for displaying finished pieces.
The work performed on each item is not meant to restore the broken piece to it’s original state, rather the object will be transformed by the repair work. On some level the repair work done will be visible becoming part of the new life of the object, such as the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-sabi. The visibility of the broken, mated to the process of healing; extending the life of usefulness indefinitely.
