The NDSO “Sounds of the Season”, will feature classical and popular holiday favorites, and a visit from Santa Claus.
HYDE PARK, NY – The Northern Dutchess Symphony will once again get audiences in the holiday spirit with their December concert entitled, “Sounds of the Season - Classical Gifts and Popular Treats.” Under the direction of William Stevens, the orchestra will perform a number of holiday pieces on Saturday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m. (snow date Sunday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m.) in the Culinary Institute of America’s Marriott Pavilion in Hyde Park, NY.
The program will begin with classical works that are on everyone’s holiday list including Bizet’s Farandole, Vivaldi’s Winter, and the Vaughan Williams’ Greensleeves Fantasy. As an added gift the Hudson Valley Saxophone Orchestra will conclude the first half of the program. In an article about the ensemble in the Poughkeepsie Journal, founder Charles Gray described their sound: “It’s almost like a string orchestra, but with the versatility to have the power of a jazz setting at times.”
The second part of the program will treat the audience to popular favorites with a little something for everyone. Medleys of familiar Christmas carols and Hanukkah songs, as well as some of the most familiar pop tunes from the 1930-60s. We will also have a visit from the Grinch and Santa who will narrate ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The holiday festivities will conclude with Leroy Anderson’s iconic Sleigh Ride!
