C-GCC to Host The Fairy Circus, Presented by the Tanglewood Marionettes
HUDSON, N.Y. – The nationally recognized touring troupe the Tanglewood Marionettes, along with more than twenty hand-crafted puppets, is slated to present The Fairy Circus to local audiences on Sunday, September 17, at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Columbia-Greene Community College.
The performance is based on a children’s book by writer and illustrator Dorothy P. Lathrop, who was born in Albany, N.Y. in 1891 and went on to win both the Newbery and Caldecott Medal for excellence in children’s literature. The Fairy Circus is ideally suited for pre-Kindergarten audiences – young toddlers in particular – and features puppets performed solo by puppeteer and Tanglewood Marionettes co-founder Peter Schaefer.
The performance is expected to run approximately 40 minutes and will showcase turn-of-the-century-style trick puppetry, which allows the puppets to dance, play instruments, juggle, contort, transform, and fly through the air to the best-loved music of favorite composers. The presentation also includes a puppetry demonstration prior to the show and a question and answer session following the performance.
Admission is $5 for the general public and $4 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the C-GCC campus and at the Greene County Council on the Arts in Catskill; telephone sales are also available weekdays by calling (518) 828-4181, extension 0.
Founded in 1993 by Anne Ware and Peter Schaefer, Tanglewood Marionettes is a touring marionette theater based in New England. The group's repertoire consists largely of classic tales performed by skilled puppeteers.
