The First Rainbow Coalition

Nov 23, 2019
07:00 PM until 09:00 PM

“The First Rainbow Coalition” Screening Saturday, November 23, 2019, Potluck at 6:00 PM, film at 7:00 PM, in the Old Chatham Quaker Meetinghouse, 539 County Route 13, Old Chatham, NY, across from Pitt Hall Road and Powell House.

In 1969, the Chicago Black Panther Party began to form a multi-ethnic coalition with the Latinx Young Lords Organization and the Young Patriots, a Southern White Organization. Banding together to fight police brutality and substandard housing in one of the most segregated cities in post-war America, the Rainbow Coalition changed the face of 1960s Chicago politics and created an organizing model for future activists and politicians.  Eloquent and seamless, the film brings to life a history resonant today, and will promote dialogue not just about the 1960s, but about urgent contemporary discussions on race and class in the United States. This film is co-presented with WMHT Public Media.

Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and a moderated discussion will follow. For more information call 518-610-3735.  For directions:
