Please join us at Gallery 40, while we display unique artwork by two local artists, Franc Palaia and Brian Gillette in Urban Icons. This show will be on view from Friday, November 8 – Tuesday, December 31. We kick off this exhibition on Saturday, November 9 from 5-8pm with an exhibition reception at Gallery 40, 40 Cannon Street, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Gillette’s work features many niche concepts and is the style fusion of a blue-collar craftsman, professional designer and guerilla street artist wallowing in the wilds between the appreciation of a vintage past and a radical future.

Palaia has been photographing walls, murals, signs, billboards street art and graffiti since 1976. Palaia says, “Walls are drop cloths of a society.” He is a painter, photographer, sculptor, and mixed media artist. The artwork in Urban Icons is an amalgamation of these art forms, primarily a photographic base layer added with collage, paint, and found objects. Visitors will see new pieces with imagery culled from Italy, France, Cuba, and the USA.

Urban Icons seeks to create “an otherworldly environment where visitors will be taken out of their normal atmosphere and enter an entirely new world,” as described by Palaia. Gillette hopes that viewers will leave with “a little more appreciation of the beauty in urban decomposition.”

Gallery 40 is open, free, to the public everyday from 9-6, or by appointment.
