For Jazz Fans… a new beat is finally here in Westchester County and like never before! Every second Friday of each month The Westchester Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music showcases The Joey Berkley Band along with a guest artist. The next gig is this Friday, May 10th at 8p.m. and features Grammy nominated guitarist/composer, Jay Azzolina who has been part of the New York Jazz scene for the past three decades.The Joey Berkley Band is an eclectic mix of accomplished musicians playing Contemporary Jazz. Featuring the compositions of Joey Berkley, the music is clearly rooted in the legacy of the Jazz Masters. Tenor saxophonist/Composer Joey Berkley is also the Center’s director. Joey has performed in many prestigious NYC venues: Birdland, The Village Gate, The Apollo, Radio City, The Beacon Theatre and The Bottom Line, to name a few. The Joey Berkley Band is: Gary Deinstadt (pno); Andy Abel (gtr); Chris Parker (dr); Nori Naroaka (bs). All the band members are seasoned pros who have performed with many top artists, past and present, including: Blood, Sweat and Tears, the Brecker Brothers, Carmen McRae, Lionel Hampton, Freddie Hubbard, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Herbie Mann, Jaco Pastorius, Spyro Gyra, Chuck Mangione. Also included on this list is Funkasaurus Rex, one of Joey’s most colorful groups that featured a five-piece horn section. Come join us at 540 Nepperhan Avenue on May 10th at 8pm.
