Transforming Hair and Lives: AnneMichelle Radcliffe

When Saturday Night Live needed someone to help with hair styling in the late 1990s, AnneMichelle Radcliffe was ready. A connection helped her access the SNL gig, a stint that ultimately led to a hairstyling Emmy win in 2008. Jobs on such popular TV series as Nurse Jackie and Smash followed.

This was great for her career, but not so wonderful for her sanity, when she had to commute home after spending 16-hour days on the set. Dreams of running her own salon soon took hold. “I wanted to make specialty skills available to the private sector and get out of production work,” says Radcliffe.

Five years ago Radcliffe opened AnneMichelle Hair in Rhinebeck. Sure, this strawberry-blonde dynamo cuts and styles, but her true specialty has become helping people suffering from hair loss — often, though not always, as a result of medical circumstances.

“It is an underserved population,” she says. “That’s my passion. I’m deeply honored to be trusted for this transformation. It is actually about the healing process.” Radcliffe incorporates hair integration systems and partial wigs — specialized techniques she mastered through TV work — to create makeovers that work in each case.

Once again, she’s on to something new: A few days a week, Radcliffe has been traveling to Manhattan to do a hair gig with Late Night with Seth Meyers. “At first I said no, and then I said yes,” she says with a laugh. Stay tuned!
