For nearly a decade, Alicia Beardsley worked as a physician’s assistant in women’s health, where she learned the powerful combination of empathy, information, and patient experience. Then, building on her clinical background, she began to incorporate a dual focus on the managerial and regulatory aspects of clinical workflows and electronic medical recordkeeping. Today, as Senior Director of Population Health Initiatives at CareMount Medical — the largest independent multi-specialty medical group in New York, serving more than 555,000 patients in 43 locations — she has combined her experience and is working to modernize the healthcare delivery system throughout this vast healthcare network. Aspects such as clinical workflow, care coordination for high-risk patients, and patient engagement programs all help define where she and her team put their focus.
“I am very passionate about the patient experience, and try to engage and empower them,” she says. “I loved the emotional part of working in women’s health and fertility — and I carry that with me because it translates to designing better patient programs and developing resources that enhance and support patient health needs. In Population Health, you’re working with data and numbers, but they represent individual humans. My work now is very fulfilling because of its direct impact on patients.”
What was the best piece of advice you've ever received?
“I found this on a sign at a beach store, and it applies to so many things: If you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”
