Do we have to choose between overpaying for organic products or settling for something made with synthetic chemicals? According to Catherine Arpino, owner of Hudson Valley Skin Care in Pleasant Valley, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for natural products. “I believe everyone should be able to afford natural, quality goods,” says Arpino, who launched her company in 2013 based on this very idea.
The chemist-turned-RN-turned-entrepreneur discovered her passion for organic skincare while working in the Estée Lauder labs in the 1980s, where she dreamed of creating her own more affordable brand. That dream came to fruition four years ago, when Arpino launched Hudson Valley Skin Care with the help of her husband Glenn. Today the company has grown approximately 70 percent since its inception, and can be found in more than 30 stores throughout the valley as well as online.
“What’s most exciting for us is being able to employ people and seeing them make progress in their lives because of this company,” says the Long Island native who grew up in an area where jobs were plentiful, but who struggled to find openings when she moved into the Valley. “That’s why I’m so serious about creating jobs now,” she says.

“After I had my first child, I was trying to do it all. My doctor told me, ‘You can have everything you want in your life, but you can’t have it all at once.’”
