Through ​Feb. 17: Gallery 1: Josette Urso — On Air Artist Josette Urso creates circular collages from colorful images to form a unique perspective that’s beautiful to behold. In her collages, Urso juxtaposes chaos and order by featuring an array of found images arranged in geometric shapes in a rainbow of color. Her oil paintings consist of muted tones in a free-flowing abstract view of her surroundings. Through ​Feb. 25: Carrie Mae Weems: Beacon The artist presents a series of photographs documenting the changing landscape and culture of Beacon over the course of a year, placing herself in the photographs standing with her back to the camera in an observational pose. A contemporary American artist, Weems depicts photography, films, and videos that address social themes focusing on race, gender, and class. Through Apr. 15: Abstract Minded: Works by Six Contemporary African Artists The artists, all natives of Africa, produce work thematically or conceptually connected to their homeland as a way of opening communication in abstract forms. Their rich traditional use of textile design, and other decorative practices from the continent, speaks volumes about their culture.
