Stagecoach Inn

Goshen, Orange County

Sitting in the living room amid the hum of quiet conversations, the light of the fireplace glinting off the windows, the china and antique maps adorning the walls, you get the feeling of being perpetually snowbound at the Stagecoach Inn. If it weren’t for the modern comforts it affords, you might completely fall out of time.

Located across from Village Hall, this auberge built in 1747 is one of the oldest operating inns in the country. It is uncharacteristically spacious, with an open floor plan that allows guests to wander freely between the parlor rooms, bar, library, patio, and solarium.

The in-house restaurant, which is open to the public, serves lunch, dinner, and brunch on weekends. A special prix-fixe menu will be offered for the duration of Valentine’s week, with savory staples like pork chop, filet mignon, and short rib.

After dinner, find your nook and order a libation. Besides the full bar, the Inn houses a diverse wine list (titled “The Library”) and more than 50 whiskeys.

Guests can retire to one of five rooms at the Inn, each with its own title and unique design (request Hickok or The Margo if you want to lounge next to a private fireplace). With vaulted ceilings and gorgeous, tiled bathrooms, the guest rooms let couples live like royalty.

Perhaps most notably, owners Faith Ferguson and Ron Boire have assembled a stellar staff whose investment in the inn and its guests’ experience is inspiring. At the Stagecoach Inn, you’ll be greeted by smiles and hosted with finesse, and if you’re lucky, innkeeper Carrie Ann may bake you some of her famous chocolate chip cookies.
