Eat treats and raise awareness for a good cause? Sounds like a no-brainer. That’s why For Goodness Bake is returning to Beacon on Saturday, June 6 for its third year. The annual pop-up bake sale offers a variety of tasty desserts to raise money for local programs.

For Goodness Bake was founded by friends Kristen Cronin and Tara Tornello in 2013 to raise money and bring awareness to some of the many worthy outreach programs in the Hudson Valley. For one day, dozens of professional and amateur bakers bring their mouth-watering confections to Beacon for sale. Once the last pasty sells out, For Goodness Bake shuts down and hands over the proceeds to the selected organization of the year.

This year’s cause, Green Teen Community Gardening Program of Beacon, is a local youth program led by the Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County. It teaches urban youths about the local food system and fosters skills like entrepreneurship and leadership. Students also have the chance to gain hands-on experience with growing vegetables, using the produce in healthy ways, and delivering the food to the Beacon community through Common Greens, the program’s mobile market.

This event is fun for the whole family. Not only can visitors sample a variety of sweet and savory treats — including vegan and gluten-free goods — but they can also sip cups of fresh lemonade. During the sale, Green Teen members conduct garden tours in the program garden at Tito Santana Taqueria across the street and will offer fun activities for children.
