Best of Hudson Valley Winners: 2008
About: We've listed this worthwhile organization -- which breeds and trains guide dogs for the visually impaired -- as an editor's pick. But it was nominated by the volunteers themselves -- over 100 of them signed a petition to tell us how much they enjoy helping out at the center. Over 1,000 people throughout the Northeast (many of whom live in the Valley) give their time and talent gratis to the organization: they raise and train the pups, help new owners learn to work with their dogs, take care of administrative tasks, and (of course) keep the kennels clean.
