Urban renewal meets the craft beer renaissance at the hottest new addition to downtown Newburgh and the Valley brewery scene. Inspired by the energy and spirit of the city’s ongoing revitalization, brewmaster Christopher Basso and partner/company president Paul Halayko opened their own refreshing contribution to the city this summer at the riverfront site of the former Newburgh Paper Box Factory. And although hardly out of its infancy, the brewery is already wise beyond its years: Basso brings six years of experience at the renowned Brooklyn Brewery to his new endeavor, and the brewery’s beers have already garnered glowing praise from the malt mavens at Beer Advocate, including a 98 “World Class” rating for their Brown Ale. With distinctive tastes and relatively modest alcohol levels, many of their brews are designed to be “sessionable,” which is beer lovers’ speak for easy to drink over extended periods of time. They are thus the perfect accompaniment to the frequent live music and other events at the company’s stunning industrial-chic taproom, located right across the street from Washington’s Headquarters.
