When a hotel has been functioning for more than 150 straight years, renovations are usually called for. Luckily for the Vanderbilt House, owner Bob Mansfield (the third member of that family to own the building) and manager Marcie Groll have done a stellar job revamping the place. All eight guest rooms upstairs were redecorated and equipped with the latest technology — high-def TVs, iPod docks, and Wi-Fi — while still maintaining the old hotel charm. Downstairs, the original doorjambs and ceiling remain, but everything else is completely new; the rustic bar connects to the elegant dining room, which overlooks Columbia County’s beautiful Summit Lake.
