An overnight trip to Beacon in the summer of 2011 changed the entire course of Angela Hasting’s life. The stylist, who had been living in Manhattan with her longtime boyfriend, was completely enchanted with the town; within seven months the pair had uprooted everything and moved into a house in the little river city. But the opening of Vintage Beacon six months later, in September 2012, was the culmination of a long-held dream. “I’ve wanted a boutique for, literally, as long as I can remember; since I was a very little girl,” she says. Now, her shop, located in a tiny storefront near the trendy Roundhouse at Beacon Falls, oozes big-city charm — while offering Chanel at consignment store prices. Part of the fun of shopping here is that the beautiful, oh-so-fashionable Hastings is incredibly down to earth and acts almost like your very own personal shopper. “I hand-select each thing that goes in the store,” she says. “I choose things based on what I really love, what I find to be special and beautiful.” Hastings says that she now has a group of regulars — both consignors and shoppers (it’s a 60/40 split) — as well as lots of clients from the city. And her Facebook page has even helped her snag clients in California and Montreal. “I could never have predicted that it would go as well as it has,” says Hastings about her first year in retail. “It’s been amazing.”
