Whether it's grilled pork chops or horseradish-crusted ahi with miso aioli, chef-owner Josh Kroner has an inventive touch with New American fare. Housed in a renovated church, the restaurant has high ceilings, comfortable tables, and a modern feel. For a more casual atmosphere (but the same creative food), head next door to the RED BISTRO. Lunch and dinner daily. Off-site catering available.

Best Appetizers 2004

“Eating is believing,” states the menu at Terrapin. Here’s betting you’ll be a believer after a single bite of one of chef-owner Josh Kroner’s inventive starters. There’s a barbecued duck quesadilla (our favorite), as well as seared sea scallops on shredded phyllo nests, macadamia-nut tempura calamari, vegetarian gingered leek and tofu pot stickers, and more. Making a choice will be the hard part, but at least you know you can’t go wrong.

Best Duck Quesadilla 2005

Chef Josh Kroner’s popular appetizer reflects his years spent at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill — but with his own unique twist. Barbecued duck is layered on a triple tortilla with fontina cheese, red onions, and jalapeño peppers, then topped with a mango avocado salsa. To die for.

Best Upscale Burger 2009

No secret here: The key to a good burger lies in the meat. It’s no surprise, then, that Terrapin’s premium patties are such a hit. To make the burgers, chef-owner Josh Kroner uses hormone-free, antibiotic-free, grain- and grass-fed beef. That all-natural flavor is further enhanced by the 30-plus toppings the restaurant offers, which include smoked Gouda, sautéed portobellos, and yogurt-mint-cucumber raita. CNN thought so much of Kroner’s creation that it filmed a segment on the burgers earlier this year. That’s news you can use — and chew.
