About Mount Saint Mary College
Mount Saint Mary College became a four-year college in 1959, but its roots as an academic presence in the Hudson Valley go back to 1883. The Sisters of Saint Dominic first opened an ele¬mentary school in Newburgh, and then established a teacher training school in 1930. Traditions of academic excellence, service, and leadership remained constant as the College grew, and still exist as foundation values.

What makes the Mount unique?
Mount students generally say that it’s the caring, inclusive community that values the individual and encourages intellec¬tual and personal growth. Students, faculty, and staff alike participate in service-learning activities and community outreach.

Mount students build homes with Habitat for Humanity; rebuild communities in New Orleans; mentor with Big Brothers, Big Sisters; send care packages to U.S. troops overseas; and conduct food, book, and clothing drives for the disadvantaged.

The close student-faculty interaction is another reason our students value the Mount. With 15 students to each faculty member, Mount professors know their students’ names, interests, and strengths. They offer the individualized support that makes the difference between good students and great students.

Undergraduate Academic Degree Programs
The Mount’s undergraduate academic programs include the health services, education, business, natural sciences, liberal arts, social sciences, and information technology. Student can also choose to prepare for a profession with our pre-professional programs in law, dentistry, medicine, and veterinary science.

The Mount offers exciting opportunities with collaboration programs in physical therapy, podiatry, publishing, and social work with Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. Through collaboration and five-year degree programs, student can earn a bachelor’s degree and either a master’s or doctoral degree in a shorter time frame.

Mount students gain and share their knowledge in and out of the class¬room. They present at science and social science conferences, and represent the College in environmental consortiums and at professional conferences.

The Mount’s Independent Research on Campus program provides an interdisciplinary forum for student-faculty research projects. These experiences teach our students that their education and potential extend far beyond campus borders.

Adult Students – Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs
Adult students returning for bachelor’s or master’s degrees can achieve their higher education goals, with one-on-one academic advisement and flexible evening and weekend scheduling.

The Mount’s Adult and Graduate Degree programs offer bachelor’s degrees in seven areas, including accounting, business, nursing and psychology. The Mount’s master’s degree programs in nursing, education and business enjoy stellar reputations in the region and beyond.

The Mount’s flexible evening and weekend schedules and accelerated format work with the busy lives of adults, and the reduced tuition rate for adult bachelor’s degree candidates is one of the lowest in the region. New hybrid education formats that combine online and on-site, in-class study provide additional flexibility with guidance.

Many students choose the Mount’s graduate programs because of the college’s reputation and established standards of excellence. For years, the Mount has helped provide regional schools, healthcare facilities, and organizations with top-notch graduates for employment. Employers know that our graduates have been rigorously prepared, and our alumni benefit from networks established through the Mount.

Adult Students – Noncredit Programs
The Mount’s noncredit programs for adult students at our Desmond Community Center include classes in technology, the arts, history, personal development, and quality of life programs. We offer a program for adults over 55 (Learning is Forever Enriching, or L.I.F.E.) with a broad range of day trips to New York City, the Berkshires, and historic homes and sites around the Hudson Valley. Cultural trips include Broadway shows, Bethel Woods, Glimmerglass Opera, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, the Caramoor Center, and many more. The Mount also hosts the Road Scholars program annually (formerly Elderhostel).

Athletics
Seventeen intercollegiate varsity teams and intramural activities encourage teamwork, discipline, social interaction, and healthy competition among our students. The Mount’s new all-season turf athletic field is home to our soccer and lacrosse teams, and we’ve recently opened six new clay tennis courts. The Mount is a Division III school in the Skyline Conference. The campus recreation center has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an NCAA-regulation basketball court, dance and exercise studios, weight rooms, and a cardio center.

Student activities
Mount students enjoy campus life, and expand their talents and interests with our diverse student activities. They hold a student-run film festival, and edit and create videos in a new editing lab. Students of all majors enjoy a creative writing club, hold open-microphone poetry readings, and publish a literary magazine.
They work with faculty mentors on research projects and explore the Hudson River as a natural laboratory. They launch student theater productions. Student athletes regularly visit schools, nursing homes, and perform community outreach. They channel school spirit through athletics, good-natured class competition and intramurals. Most importantly, our students become leaders along the way.

Internships
The Mount has a robust internship program with many opportunities extending from New York City to Albany. This past year, Mount students interned at WABC-TV Sports, MTV, NBC, the New York State Attorney General’s office, and a New York State Senator’s office in Albany.

Study Abroad
Oxford, England; Segovia, Spain; Dublin, Ireland; and Florence, Italy, are just a few of the possibilities in the Mount’s Study Abroad programs. We collaborate with other universities and programs to offer unlimited overseas opportunities for study in Australia, New Zealand, and beyond.
