Peekskill Brewery, Peekskill

The best brews and news to come out of Peekskill Brewery in 2013

Peekskill Brewery co-owners Keith, Kara, and Morgan Berardi are on track for yet another great year. First, they moved into their expanded space on the city’s South Water Street last December. Now, the funky ground-floor bar (which showcases the oversized steel brewing vats) and the second-floor restaurant both have great views of the waterfront. In addition, the trio has been able to quadruple production of their sought-after brews. Then, in January, their double IPA, Higher Standards, won the prestigious 2013 TAP New York Governor’s Cup for Best Beer in the state. Three of their beers are available at all times — Hop Common, Simple Sour, and Eastern Standard IPA — but the bar always offers 10 to 12 craft beers on tap (hint: they tap a new keg on Thursdays). Also available is hard apple cider from Warwick Valley and Applewood wineries. Locally sourced food reigns here; at the $50 Brewers Dinner, “customers get four to five courses that are the chef’s specialty, which we then pair with beer,” says Kara. “We offer this right at the table, and it’s something our customers have really been into.” 914-734-2337; www.peekskillbrewery.com
