Description

HEY AMERICA - it’s time to wake up!  We have a serious silent disease in this country of epidemic proportion - SLEEP DISORDERS.
Today in the U.S. approximately 80 million Americans suffer fom undiagnosed and untreated sleep related disorders. Current literature classifies the most common types as “Insomnia”, “Sleep Related Breathing Disorder”’ and “Restless Leg Syndrome”.
Consequently, the impact of these sleep disorders on an individuals health can be devistating, and can express itself in a multiplicity of serious health issues such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, endocrine disorders, emotional and psychological imbalance, general physial fatigue leading to increased human error and accidents, and the morbidity list goes on.
The medical and dental professionals of today have the opportunity and responsibility to assume a proactive role in the diagnosis and management of patients suffering from sleep disorders. Intervention begins with taking a comprehensive medical and sleep history combined with a review of symptoms. Patients who are identified with probable sleep pathology would be referred to an accredited sleep disorder center for furthur testing, diagnosis and sleep therapy.
The “gold standard of care” for these patients is the use of a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine. However, for some patients the CPAP is not an option. These patients cannot wear this device for one reason or another.
Dr Dell has recently attended the Gerber Dental Institute in Parkersburg, West Va., where he received training in the recognition and dental management of sleep related breathing disorders. For those patients who are unable to utilize the CPAP, there is an alternative dental treatment option. This option is an “Oral Airway Dilator Appliance”. It is well documented that the dilator appliance can provide effective management of mild to moderate sleep apnea. The oral dilator is a custom intra-oral device used in the repositioning of the mandible (lower jaw) to a more favorable position for airway support during sleep.
Dr. Dell takes pride in his pursuit of continued dental education so he can always offer the best dental care for each of his patients. He is absolutely thrilled to offer the oral dilator appliance to help you manage sleep apnea and SNORING problems.
HEY AMERICA - it’s time to get off the couch and  back into the  “quiet”  bedroom!
