Joseph J. Fulton, MD, FACS, RPVI, is a nationally recognized surgeon, educator and researcher. He joined MidHudson Regional Hospital in 2015.

A native of Dutchess County, Dr. Fulton spent nearly two decades at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Department of Surgery. His surgical interests centered on complex surgical and endovascular treatment of vascular disease, with emphasis on peripheral/visceral revascularization and surgical access for dialysis. He also was integrally involved with the education of medical students, residents and fellows.

A thought and research leader in his field, Dr. Fulton has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and has served as principal investigator in clinical trials related to vascular surgery. He is a member of multiple medical societies, including the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Academy of Educators.

Dr. Fulton also has been involved in global surgical care. As faculty of the Malawi Surgical Initiative, he has provided clinical and surgical care to patients in eastern sub-Sahara Africa and has educated Malawian medical students and surgical residents.

Dr. Fulton earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Notre Dame in electrical engineering and his medical degree at SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. He completed his residency in surgery as well as an advanced fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
