Dr. Gokhan Ozuner of the Ramapo Valley Surgical Associates is the only colorectal specialist in Rockland Country; but that’s not all that sets him apart from others in the region. The graduate of Istanbul University who trained in Staten Island, New York and Cleveland, Ohio completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery and worked in the United Kingdom with one of the guru’s in the field, Sir Alexander-Williams. “Working in a narrow field and devoting 100 percent of my practice to it allows me to provide the best possible care for patients,” says Dr. Ozuner, who is also actively involved in teaching students and residents at Columbia and Cornell Universities on the latest developments in his field.
Dr. Ozuner brought his international expertise to his Suffern-based practice, where he performs endorectal ultrasonography and laparascopic and complicated colorectal surgical procedures to treat colon and rectal cancers, IBD, diverticular disease, rectal prolapse and anorectal problems. Most of the anorectal pathologies are treated in the office. And while the procedures might sound complicated, Dr. Ozuner involves patients in treatment decision-making processes and goes at length to explain all possible options.
