From your first visit with Patty, your treatment plan coordinator, you will sense that your orthodontic experience with Dr. Rajendra Rana will have a great outcome. Your first impression will be that the staff of seven is uncommonly close-knit. You would be correct: two are sisters and one is a former patient, and nearly all have worked together for over a decade. Every member of this team serves in both the Kingston and Rhinebeck offices.
Dr. Rana treats both adolescents and adults. His adult patients are often parents of children who have finished treatment and are now seeking treatment for themselves.
Patients will schedule a consultation at no charge and, if ready for detailed evaluation, a diagnostic workup is recommended. This consists of X-rays, photos, and study models using digital technology. A third visit is scheduled with both patient and parents to review all possible options to achieve optimum treatment goals. Along the way, new patients will meet nearly everyone in the practice as they learn about the steps involved in treatment, which options are available to them, and what the cost will be for treatment.
“We place a priority on education,” says Dr. Rana, who has exclusively practiced orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics for 25 years. “In-depth planning leads to superior results and higher patient satisfaction.” This becomes more important as the number of adults seeking and entering treatment increases. He also advocates early intervention for children as young as four years of age, recommending various orthodontic appliances for growth modification. Dr. Rana strives to provide cost-saving, treatment time-reducing procedures for his patients. Laser technology is utilized to help “expose and contour” gum tissue around teeth “waiting to erupt” without a scalpel or “needles.”

Dr. Rana has practiced in the Hudson Valley for more than 20 years offering pro bono services to those in need, including a high school student who suffered harassment by her peers because of her teeth and a young child adopted from another country with an untreated cleft palate.
Dr. Rana is a graduate of Howard University and New York University. He has been in academia since 1984 and won several Teacher of The Year awards from his postgraduate orthodontic residents at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center. He is an associate adjunct professor at NYU, College of Dentistry, Department of Post Graduate Orthodontics. Dr. Rana belongs to several prestigious professional associations; chief among these is the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.
