Dr. Mohan R. Sarabu graduated from Gandhi Medical College/Osmania University in India in 1973. After completing his internship in India in 1975, he was a resident in General Surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore from 1975 to 1978 and completed his residency and chief residency in General Surgery at New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center from 1978 to 1980. He then moved to Syracuse, New York, for his fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Upstate Medical Center (SUNY), where he also served as a Clinical Instructor in Surgery from 1980 to 1982. The excellent experience in Syracuse brought him to teach at New York Medical College, where he was the Assistant Professor of Surgery from 1982 to 1991, Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery from 1991 to 2005, and an adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery from 2005-2006.
Dr. Sarabu was an Attending Surgeon in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla from 198 to 2004, performing all types of adult and pediatric heart surgery.
Other hospital appointments include Assistant Professor of Surgery and Associate Director of Cardiac Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital from 2005 to 2006. In 2006, Vassar Brothers Medical Center invited him to be Director and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Board certifications include Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery (1981), American Board of Thoracic Surgery (1983), and recertification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (1993 and 2003). Dr. Sarabu is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, Dutchess County Medical Society, American College of Surgeons, and New York Thoracic Surgery.
