“We’re proud to announce that our center recently underwent the accreditation process and met the national standards of the American Academy of Medicine,” says Dr. Barbara Chatr-Aryamontri, head of The Sleep Center of Excellence at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. The center provides diagnostic and consultative services to patients with sleep issues such as insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy and sleep walking. By the end of the year, it will be expanding to increase the number of patients that can be served.
Dr. Chatr-Aryamontri, a pulmonologist who trained at The New York University Medical Center, has adopted a multidisciplinary approach that uses both behavioral and pharmaceutical treatments that sets her practice apart from the rest. She works with cardiologists, ENT physicians and neurologists to ensure that patients receive the best care. “For instance, when we use CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) to treat sleep apnea, where pressurized air is delivered through the nose,” says Dr. Chatr- Aryamontri, “it’s important to get the ENT involved in the treatment.” The Sleep Center for Excellence strives to restore healthy sleep patterns which influence a patient’s overall health.
